Take Nothing For Granted...

Appreciation - The recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.
Appreciation is one of the most highly valued virtues. Yet for some reason, most of us often take for granted what we have, from our jobs, our financial status, our health, our homes, to the people around us - our parents, our spouse, our friends, even our pets.
Today we should all spend some time focusing on appreciation. Giving appreciation for what we hold dear to us, and giving appreciation to what we value in life.  We should take a few moments to really think about what our life would be like if we were to lose any of these things or people. Just imagine what you would wish you "could have said" or "should have done" if you woke up tomorrow only to realize that it was all just... gone.

Think about the things or people you complain about.  Would you take it back if you lost them?  Would winning that argument with your spouse  the night before have been that important?  What if those were the last words you ever spoke to them?

Of course, we can't all just sit around hugging each other all of the time, in fear of some freak incident that takes everything we know and love away from us.  We have resposibilities and we get busy taking care of our daily lives, but there's no denying that every single one of us has those little thoughts that pop into our mind every so often, reminding us that we need to be more grateful. Even during our most frustrating and impatient moments... we hear them, we just don't want to listen to them.
"Practice showing your appreciation by paying attention and responding to those thoughts with acts of kindness. Each moment you catch yourself just try to do one small act to show your gratitude."
Today, try to give appreciation to someone specific.  Someone whom you’re thankful for in your life.  When’s the last time you wrote an e-mail, made a phone call or sent a thank you note to someone? A month ago? 3 months ago? 1 year ago? Never?
Who is on your mind right now?  Who is it that you know you need to make feel appreciated?  And now,...  What are you waiting for??

  1. I couldn't agree more! I have so many things to be grateful for and one of them just wrote this column, although I woke up to the ingratitude of others reading this brought me back from a precipice of disgust and helped me remember that Life is What I choose to Make of it and I choose to make it a Great Day!

Thank You so much for helping me regain my senses!
