The first thing I did this morning was tell myself: "Today is going to be a great day!" In fact, I found myself repeating this several times again and again throughout the day. It was just one of those days where everything seemed to be a little less tolerable and a little more irritable.
I did, however, manage to affirm my way into a more positive and patient state of mind which, that in and of itself was a task, to say the least. Sometimes, some days our satisfaction of feeling accomplished for the day comes from simply just "getting through it" and even better if we can do it with a smile.
Please, if you can, do not start your day off with a negative attitude. It sets the stage for your entire day, it's draining and a complete waste of energy... for yourself and everyone around you! If you find yourself having "one of those days" do your best to nip it in the bud. Tell yourself right away that you will not tolerate or allow your cranky emotions to get in the way of your happiness. Of course, this takes practice... sometimes a lot of practice but it's just like anything else. "Practice makes perfect."
Each day holds so much potential. The possibilities that today offers you are endless, and it's just as easy (and a lot more exciting) to anticipate wonderful things to come! However, I do acknowledge the fact that it is easy to let the blessings that surround you go by unnoticed if you're not looking. The lifestyles we choose or take on get busy; we get distracted. Even so, there's still no real excuse why we can't take a couple of minutes to observe and appreciate the gifts around us; the things we would surely miss if they were gone.
Remind yourself of what you do have and not what you don't have. Whatever your cranky mood is pouting about is probably very insignificant compared to the grand scheme of things in your life. Realize that you are bigger than your problems and that your life is too precious to let them get the best of you. Remember that today is a gift and tomorrow is never promised. So make sure you put first things first.
Okay, go ahead and do it now; take a minute and look around you. What do you notice? What are you grateful for? What are you stressing about? Think about it... which is more important? Is it really worth it? Either way... tell yourself... "It's going to be a great day!" If nothing else, at least be proud of the fact that you made an effort to make the best out of the situation And that ,my friend, is what will make your day great!
